Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light has reached an inflection point. We are growing as an organization, we are working with partners such as Solarize RI, NuRIde, RIPTA and the Capital Good Fund. We are providing opportunities for college interns to contribute their enthusiasm and skills to the important cause of Creation Care. We have engaged in significant interfaith collaboration with the diverse communities in our state. Recent events, such as the Paris Climate talks and Pope Francis’ eco-encyclical Laudato Si’, have generated strong interest in our work and opportunities for deepening engagement to fulfill our mission.
This is why we believe 2016 is the time to take stock, engage in reflection, consult with our members, partners and other stakeholders, and develop a longer-term strategic plan to ensure that we are focusing our efforts on the right activities to fulfill our mission and that our broader community is aligned to execute on that plan.
We are profoundly grateful to the Rhode Island Foundation for investing in our future with an organizational development grant to support our strategic planning work. These past months, we have rolled up our sleeves for working sessions and spirited discussions to plan for our growth.
Since its founding by Roger Williams, Rhode Island has stood for religious tolerance. Now, as Rhode Island’s unique coastal geography exposes our state to severe climate impacts, it is imperative that we come together as people of faith to address the hazards caused by climate change and to take specific, immediate action.
Our strategic plan is intended to provide clarity to our partners, inform our choices and optimize our allocation of resources to program work. I invite you to read it and share your feedback with us. Thank you for your interest in our work and we welcome you to join us as we work to build a more resilient environment.
